What is a Next Step?
A Next Step is a one-click action at the top of an ended meeting or Canvas. Select one and Contio drafts the output, such as a follow-up email, executive summary or CRM notes, from the conversation and other workspace context. Make any edits you want, and it's ready to send. Next Steps are the bridge from the conversation to the action that follows it.
Where do I find Next Steps?
In the Next Steps section at the top of every ended meeting and every Canvas. It sits at the top on purpose, so it's the first thing you see when a meeting wraps. You manage your Next Steps in Settings.
How do I use a Next Step?
When a meeting ends (or a Canvas is ready), open the Next Steps section at the top.
Click a Next Step. Contio AI drafts the output from the conversation's context.
Review and refine — edit the draft directly, or tell the AI what to change in plain language ("make this more concise," "add a line about timing").
Fill in any details (like the email recipient), then send it where it belongs. The completed step is logged on the meeting so you can see what got done.
Can I create my own Next Step?
Yes. In Settings, create a Next Step by naming it and describing what you want it to do in plain language — Contio AI helps you write the prompt. You can also use the ones Contio built and the ones your team shares.
How is this different from action items?
Action items tell you what to do. Next Steps do it — they draft the follow-up or the summary from the conversation and get it ready to send. And unlike a rigid automation, every Next Step is built from what was actually said in that meeting, not a fixed template.
Does it work on Canvases too?
Yes. Next Steps appear at the top of a Canvas as well as an ended meeting. A Next Step can also draft a full document straight into a new Canvas.
What plan do I need?
Free: Next Steps appear as a preview so you can see them, but they aren't executable — upgrade to a paid plan to run them.
Pro: includes up to 5 Next Steps.
Elite: unlimited Next Steps.
Is my data private?
Yes. MeetingOS works without a bot joining your meeting and without recording audio. AI processing happens in Contio's secure private cloud, and your data is never used to train AI models.
